Sitting on the veranda, drinking your second or third glass of something cool and refreshing as the sun begins to set. Summer is waning. That perfect in-between space that you want to last forever. This was our inspiration.

Sweet nostalgic tunes like the Kinks’ “Sunny Afternoon” flow into Allen Touissant’s incredibly smooth instrumental rendition of “St. James Infirmary”. More contemporary selections include one of Brazil’s rising new stars, CéU, singing the beautifully layered and melodic “Bubuia”, and Melody Gardot’s swinging ballad “Goodnite”. If you put it on repeat, the mood could last forever, but you’ll still have to get up and refill that by now empty glass.

Doesn’t get much cooler than Joe Cuba’s Sextet “Do You Feel it?” Waxing lyrical about growing up in Spanish Harlem in the 1970’s, where “everything was beautiful to me, my querido, my beautiful barrio,” this title track is a shining example of NY latin soul. This mix journeys from uptown NY to Brazil, Cape Verde, Argentina, Spain and some interesting cross-overs such as the NY-based Brazilian Girls, an entirely male band apart from the singer, Sabina Sciubba. All rhythmic and soulful tunes, “Do You Feel It?” will keep you dancing late into the night.
